Meet your activity leader: Elena
Hello! My name is Elena. I am the guide for you in the Ural region — people often say that the first Russian settlements were created here. I work as a guide since 1998 when I began working with French speaking tourists. I also speak English and it is my second foreign language, which I use to communicate with tourists. I have visited many different countries and I am passionate about meeting people, learning more about other cultures and traditions, that's why I'm always looking forward to meeting international tourists. My hobby is painting, and when I have free time I usually go to the countryside, where I have a wooden 19th century house surrounded by nature. It's the only place where I can truly relax from the daily routine.
What to expect
The tour will take you to the places which keep the memory of horrors of Russian revolutions and civil war. I will show you what was happening here, on the other side of the country, at another centre of revolutionary action in Russia. Have you heard of another name of the city? For a long while it was called after Jakob Sverdlov, administrator of Bolshevik party. Did you know that it's here where the last tsar family was executed? Did you know that the city was closed during the Soviet times? What kind of people were called Chekists and why they had the whole neighbourhood for themselves? Symbolically enough, it was built on a former graveyard… I'll show you that. I'll walk you through the city centre telling stories of how the revolution happened on those very streets, take you to the place where the last royal family was murdered… and maybe somewhere else too. Come join us for the walk of memories which are hundred years old now.
